A Tribute to a Special Friend

Rocco's picture graces much of our website. He is a very special dog to many of us and he has recently been diagnosed with Lymphona. Our hearts and prayers go out to Rocco and his mom and dad.

Rocco's dad Kevin would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to have those lumps and bumps checked out. Roccos is a young vibrant dog and the diagnosis of Lymphoma was a shock, but hopefully they have caught it early and he will respond to the chemo.

Rocco and his sister Havana chillin on the couch (hmmm..more couch taters)

I'd like to share this little tribute beautifully written by Mike but he speaks for many of us.

To Kevin, Alicia and Rocco and Havana:

A trip down memory lane can bring back so many fond memories.
This could not be any truer for our memories of Rocco and our relationship with his loving parents.
Rocco was our foster pre-Our Pack and helped cement our journey into rescue and the love of a a breed that will last forever.
Rocco has taught us what a temperamentally sound pit bull is.
Rocco is a true ambassador for the breed.
He became our very best friend.
Without an ill-tempered moment, always looking for approval, since all he desires is being loved.
He is able to invoke love, since all he does is exude love.
We always think of you fondly and hold you dear to our hearts.
Good luck to you old buddy, we love you!

Grazin' in the Grass

Always willing to look silly for his adoring fans

Dancing with the Stars has nothing on Rocco
You will always be a star in our eyes!!

  1. To Rocco and his Mom and Dad:
We lost our beloved hybrid wolf, Keya, to cancer on March 25 of last year. I remember how it feels when one of your very best friends, your dog, has cancer. My heart goes out to all three of you. Without going into too much detail, I can tell you that Keya lived longer than expected with a good quality of life. Her vet took chest x-rays after she developed a cough and the x-rays showed the cancer had spread to her lungs. Her vet told us by looking at the x-rays she would not have believed this dog was still alive if she had not been standing there living and breathing right in front of her. Her vet strongly believes Keya lived so long and was still so strong even in her last days because we fed her n/d by Hills Prescription Diet. Its a food designed for dogs with cancer especially those receiving chemotherapy. As suggested by Hills we also reduced her carbs as much as possible. It only comes in cans and is only available through a vet for about $3.00 per 12.7 oz.can. Keya ate a couple cans a day for nearly 8 months and we feel it was worth every penny.

My name is Michelle and I bring my dog, Toby, to the 10:00 class in Los Gatos on Sundays. If I can be of help to you in anyway during this difficult time, please don't hesitate to ask.

I know what a difficult time this can be with a Cancer diagnosis.
    All the best.

  3. Our dogs become part of our human family and when they get sick it hurts the same. I hope and pray for a full recovery for Rocco. My Mom was diagnosed with Lymphoma in 1999 and she's still alive and kicking!

  4. Thanks Michelle, sorry to hear about your dog Keya. Rocco starts Chemo tuesday. He is on prednisone now and the lymph nodes have reduced significantly! Unfortunately the vet says they will come right back without Chemo. We did move to a high protein/grain free (wellness core) diet supplemented with fish oil and boiled chicken. I might modify it more. I've heard about that Hills Diet as well. I'll talk to my vet Tuesday. Thanks to everyone else for their thoughts and prayers. Rocco hopes to one day make it back to CA. and the 10am class in Los Gatos and sun bathe on the patio in Marthina's backyard.

I would LOVE to have Rocco come back to sun bathe and play in our yard with Hailey et al! And of course Havana and Rocco would really enjoy the famous Sunday class again! There's lots of new dogs for Rocco to see. I'm sure he and Havana will do great.

Here's to Rocco getting well quickly!

    Looking forward to it,
Marthina, Hailey, Leo, Dexter, Posie and Daisy.

  6. I am so sorry to hear about your poor pup. But I must say, even though I don't know you, think VERY highly of you for doing Chemo with your dog. There are VERY few people who would do this for a dog, and I am just tickled that not only are you going above and beyond for your dog, but you're doing it for your PIT BULL! This has made my day!

I will light a candle for you and your family, and pup.
