Reading Raven

We are very proud to announce that our sweet Raven has been accepted in the Palo Alto Library's Paws to Read program. Thanks to the wonderful people at the Palo Alto Public Library for giving her this opportunity.
She had her first visit this past Saturday and we hear that she was a big hit! Our hope is that some of our other pit bull ambassadors can add their reading talents to their program. We can't thank her Foster Dad George enough for all that he has done with her! Now we are just keeping all of our paws and fingers crossed that she may be finding her forever home real soon!

Good News

We got the good news from Best Friends Animal Society about the Las Vegas Summit.
Here it is:

Animal Welfare Groups Announce New Collaboration to Save Pit Bulls
Best Friends Animal Society and The Humane Society of the United States announced that a summit meeting held this week in Las Vegas to discuss the disposition of dogs seized from dogfighting operations has led to a coalition of groups working together to help the canine victims of organized violence.
Among the outcomes of the meeting:
• The HSUS has a new policy of recommending that all dogs seized from fighting operations be professionally evaluated, according to agreed upon standards, to determine whether they are suitable candidates for adoption. Dogs deemed suitable for placement should be offered as appropriate to adopters or to approved rescue organizations. The HSUS will update its law enforcement training manual and other materials to reflect this change in policy.
• The groups agree that all dogs should be treated as individuals, and they are the true victims of this organized crime. They also agree to support law enforcement and animal control agencies when decisions must be made regarding the dogs deemed unsuitable for adoption and in cases when rescue organizations and adopters are unable, within a reasonable timeframe, to accept dogs from such raids that have been offered for adoption.
• The organizations will form a working group to develop future protocols for cooperation in addressing the needs of dogs seized in raids, such as how to assist with the housing of fighting dogs, how to conduct professional evaluations, and how to screen potential adopters.
The summit meeting was convened to address the matter of dogs seized as a result of cruelty investigations, particularly due to the increase in HSUS-led enforcement actions against dogfighters.
Participants at the meeting included Best Friends Animal Society, The Humane Society of the United States, BAD RAP, ASPCA, National Animal Control Association, Maddie’s Fund, Nevada Humane Society, and Spartanburg Humane Society.

And now because it's Easter Weekend - Here's a little video to remind everyone to kiss your pit bulls

Some of our Recent CGC's

We think Pit Bulls make some of the best CGCs. Many go on to be therapy dogs.
Temperament correct Pit Bulls make great therapy dogs, they just love the people-folk!
If you think your dog is ready to be CGC tested let us know and we'll check'm out.
Testing is free for Pit Bulls through Our Pack!

No one is immune

Tougher Rules for Pit Bulls
Even in the land of Best Friends and many of the former Michael Vick Pit bulls BSL is trying to raise it's ugly head! It seems that the city of Ogden is looking at making amendments to put in tougher requirements for owners of pit bulls. Special collars to identify them - see previous blog - and WHO is going to id them? Who can pick out the pit bull in these pictures?
We must be diligent, we must be the best pit bull owners and advocates, we must not think this can't happen where we live.

A Tribute to a Special Friend

Rocco's picture graces much of our website. He is a very special dog to many of us and he has recently been diagnosed with Lymphona. Our hearts and prayers go out to Rocco and his mom and dad.

Rocco's dad Kevin would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to have those lumps and bumps checked out. Roccos is a young vibrant dog and the diagnosis of Lymphoma was a shock, but hopefully they have caught it early and he will respond to the chemo.

Rocco and his sister Havana chillin on the couch (hmmm..more couch taters)

I'd like to share this little tribute beautifully written by Mike but he speaks for many of us.

To Kevin, Alicia and Rocco and Havana:

A trip down memory lane can bring back so many fond memories.
This could not be any truer for our memories of Rocco and our relationship with his loving parents.
Rocco was our foster pre-Our Pack and helped cement our journey into rescue and the love of a a breed that will last forever.
Rocco has taught us what a temperamentally sound pit bull is.
Rocco is a true ambassador for the breed.
He became our very best friend.
Without an ill-tempered moment, always looking for approval, since all he desires is being loved.
He is able to invoke love, since all he does is exude love.
We always think of you fondly and hold you dear to our hearts.
Good luck to you old buddy, we love you!

Grazin' in the Grass

Always willing to look silly for his adoring fans

Dancing with the Stars has nothing on Rocco
You will always be a star in our eyes!!
